War Powers Acts, 1941, 1942
- War Powers Acts, 1941, 1942
Following the attack on Pearl Harbor and U.S. entry into World War II, the federal government was granted powers necessary to mobilize the nation for war, first with the War Powers Act of 18 December 1941, enabling the government to assign powers to war agencies or departments, and secondly with the War Powers Act of 27 March 1942. The second act enabled the government to allocate materials or facilities in any way thought necessary to wage war. It provided the power for the War Production Board to direct the economy. The act was repealed in March 1947.
