War Bonds
   War Bonds was the name given to the U.S. Treasury Series E Savings Bonds first issued on 1 May 1941. (U.S. Savings Bonds were first issued in 1935.) After Pearl Harbor and U.S. entry into World War II, these bonds became known as “war bonds” or “victory bonds.” The bonds were sold in eight war loan drives during the war and raised $135 billion.
