Casablanca Conference, 1943

Casablanca Conference, 1943
President Franklin D. Roosevelt became the first president to leave the United States in wartime and the first to visit Africa when he traveled to newly liberated Casablanca, Morocco, to meet the British prime minister Winston Churchill and other Allied leaders in 1943. The Soviet leader, Joseph Stalin, was unable to attend due to the war situation in the Soviet Union (USSR). During this first wartime conference, which lasted from 14 to 24 January, the Allies agreed that their objective should be the unconditional surrender of Germany, Italy, and Japan. They also agreed that there should be an invasion of Italy.
