Black Cabinet

Black Cabinet
The Black Cabinet was an informal network of the more than 40 African Americans appointed to positions in various federal agencies by the New Deal by 1936. It included Mary McLeod Bethune, Ralph Bunche, William H. Hastie, and Robert C. Weaver. This black presence in government contributed significantly in the switch in political allegiance of black voters from the Republican Party to the Democratic Party in the 1930s.
