Endo v. United States

Endo v. United States
(323 U.S. 283 1944)
Mitsuye Endo was a Japanese American native of California, who in 1942 applied for a writ of habeas corpus challenging the legality of her internment in a relocation center during World War II. Her case eventually reached the Supreme Court, which ruled unanimously on 18 December 1944 that the government had no right to hold citizens whose loyalty they had conceded. On the basis of this decision, the War Relocation Authority gradually began to release the inmates of the camps back into society.
