D-Day, 1944
   D-Day was the name given to the start of the Allied invasion of Normandy (code named “Overlord”) in World War II. Initially planned for 5 June 1944, it was delayed by bad weather and finally took place on 6 June. It involved the successful landing of 130,000 troops on five beaches—Gold, Juno, and Sword (British and French) and Utah and Omaha (American).
